3BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
1   Section 1.  Section 915.13, subsection 1, paragraph f, Code
22022, is amended to read as follows:
   3f.  Except where the prosecuting county attorney determines
4that disclosure of such information, including the provision
5of reports prepared by law enforcement under subsection 3,

6 would unreasonably interfere with the investigation, at the
7request of the registered victim, notice of the status of the
8investigation shall be provided by law enforcement authorities
9investigating the case, until the alleged assailant is
10apprehended or the investigation is closed.
11   Sec. 2.  Section 915.13, Code 2022, is amended by adding the
12following new subsection:
13   NEW SUBSECTION.  3.  Subject to subsection 1, the county
14attorney shall provide a victim registered with the county
15attorney’s office with a copy of any reports prepared by law
16enforcement upon the filing of a complaint against a defendant
17in a criminal case relating to the crime for which the person
18is a registered victim.
19EXPLANATION
20The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
21the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
   22This bill relates to the provision of law enforcement
23records to a registered victim.
   24The bill provides that a county attorney shall provide a
25victim registered with the county attorney’s office with a copy
26of any reports prepared by law enforcement upon the filing of a
27complaint against a defendant in a criminal case relating to
28the crime for which the person is a registered victim.
   29The bill provides that if the prosecuting attorney
30determines that disclosure of reports prepared by law
31enforcement would unreasonably interfere with the investigation
32of the case, the county attorney can withhold the release of
33the reports from the victim.
