House Study Bill 517 - IntroducedA Bill ForAn Act 1relating to licensed health care providers for purposes
2of state law regarding concussion and brain injury policies
3for extracurricular interscholastic activities.
4BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
1   Section 1.  Section 280.13C, subsection 2, paragraph e, Code
22022, is amended to read as follows:
   3e.  “Licensed health care provider” means a physician,
4physician assistant, chiropractor, advanced registered
5nurse practitioner, nurse, physical therapist, occupational
6therapist, person who holds a doctorate in psychology with
7specialty training in neuropsychology or concussion management,

8 or athletic trainer licensed by a board designated under
9section 147.13.
10EXPLANATION
11The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
12the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
   13This bill adds persons who hold a doctorate in psychology
14with specialty training in neuropsychology or concussion
15management to the definition of “licensed health care provider”
16for the purposes of state law regarding concussion and brain
17injury policies for extracurricular interscholastic activities.
18Duties of such licensed health care providers include but are
19not limited to making determinations regarding removal of
20students from participation in such activities and their return
21to participation.
