House Study Bill 244 - IntroducedA Bill ForAn Act 1relating to attribution statements on certain campaign
2signs and making penalties applicable.
3BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
1   Section 1.  Section 68A.406, subsection 3, Code 2021, is
2amended to read as follows:
   33.  Campaign signs with dimensions of thirty-two eight
4 square feet or less are exempt from the attribution statement
5requirement in section 68A.405. Campaign signs in excess of
6thirty-two eight square feet, or signs that are affixed to
7buildings or vehicles regardless of size except for bumper
8stickers, are required to include the attribution statement
9required by section 68A.405. The placement or erection of
10campaign signs shall be exempt from the requirements of chapter
11480 relating to underground facilities information.
12EXPLANATION
13The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
14the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
   15This bill changes the maximum size of campaign signs that are
16not required to include an attribution statement from 32 square
17feet to 8 square feet.
   18By operation of law, a person who willfully violates the bill
19is guilty of a serious misdemeanor. A serious misdemeanor is
20punishable by confinement for no more than one year and a fine
21of at least $430 but not more than $2,560.
