House Concurrent Resolution 5 - Introduced



A Concurrent Resolution 1calling on the President of the
2United States to establish a United States-United
3Kingdom free-trade agreement.
4WHEREAS, the United Kingdom separated from the
5European Union on January 31, 2020, thus gaining the
6right to determine its own trade policies;and
7WHEREAS, the United States and the United Kingdom
8have strong historic, cultural, and economic bonds;and
9WHEREAS, the United States and the United Kingdom
10have an important trade relationship, with United
11States exports of goods and services to the United
12Kingdom in 2018 totaling $146.9 billion, and imports
13of goods and services from the United Kingdom totaling
14$122.9 billion;and
15WHEREAS, it is in the interests of both nations to
16strengthen the special relationship that binds our two
17democracies;NOW THEREFORE,
   18BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, THE
19SENATE CONCURRING, That the General Assembly of the
20State of Iowa calls upon the President of the United
21States to press forward expeditiously with recently
22launched negotiations with the United Kingdom with the
23objective of establishing a free-trade agreement;and

   24BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That upon passage of this
25resolution, the Secretary of the Senate shall transmit
26copies of this resolution to the President of the
