House Study Bill 89 - IntroducedA Bill ForAn Act 1relating to the qualifications necessary for an
2applicant for licensure as a professional engineer.
3BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
1   Section 1.  Section 542B.14, subsection 1, paragraph a,
2subparagraph (4), Code 2021, is amended to read as follows:
   3(4)  Successfully passing an examination designed to
4determine the proficiency and qualifications to engage in the
5practice of engineering. No applicant shall be entitled to
6take this examination until the applicant shows the necessary
7practical experience in engineering work.

8EXPLANATION
9The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
10the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
   11This bill eliminates the requirement that applicants for
12licensure as a professional engineer show necessary practical
13experience in engineering work prior to taking an examination
14designed to determine their proficiency and qualifications to
15engage in the practice of engineering. The bill does not alter
16other experience requirements applicable to such applicants.
