4BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
1 Section 1. NEW SECTION. 280.31 Presidential precinct
2caucuses — school activities prohibited.
3A public or nonpublic school shall not schedule any school
4activity after the conclusion of the school day on the date of
5a precinct caucus held as part of the presidential nominating
6process. For purposes of this section, “school activity”
7includes but is not limited to any athletic event, concert,
8performance, contest, practice, or rehearsal, or any similar
9event.
10EXPLANATION
11The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
12the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
13This bill prohibits a public or accredited nonpublic school
14from scheduling any school activity after the conclusion of the
15school day on the date of a precinct caucus held as part of
16the presidential nominating process. The bill provides that
17“school activity” includes but is not limited to any athletic
18event, concert, performance, contest, practice, or rehearsal,
19or any similar event.
