4BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
1   Section 1.  Section 234.46, subsection 1, paragraph c, Code
22020, is amended to read as follows:
   3c.  At the time the person became age eighteen, the person
4received foster care services that were paid for by the state
5under section 234.35, services at a state training school,
6services at a juvenile shelter care home, or services at a
7juvenile detention home, or court-ordered care by a relative or
8another person with a significant relationship with the person,

9 and the person is no longer receiving such services or care.
10EXPLANATION
11The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
12the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
   13This bill relates to the definition of “young adult” for
14purposes of participation in the preparation for adult living
15program (program).
   16The purpose of the program is to assist young adult persons
17who are leaving foster care and other court-ordered services at
18age 18 or older in making the transition to self-sufficiency.
   19The bill includes a person who, at the time the person turned
2018 years of age, received court-ordered care with a relative or
21another person with a significant relationship with the person,
22in the eligibility criteria for young adult participation in
23the program.
