3BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
1   Section 1.  STATE FIRE MARSHAL RULES — CHILDREN’S
2RESIDENTIAL FACILITIES.
  The state fire marshal shall
3adopt fire safety rules pursuant to chapter 17A to exempt
4children’s residential facilities certified pursuant to
5chapter 237C that are college preparatory boarding and day
6high schools established in 1890 from the international fire
7code regulations and to provide for an inspection fee of not
8more than one hundred dollars for such facilities. The state
9fire marshal shall, in collaboration with the department of
10human services, the department of inspections and appeals, and
11other appropriate agencies, take into consideration the size,
12nature, and purpose of children’s residential facilities in
13promulgating such rules.
14EXPLANATION
15The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
16the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
   17This bill directs the state fire marshal to adopt fire safety
18rules to exempt children’s residential facilities certified
19pursuant to Code chapter 237C that are college preparatory
20boarding and day high schools established in 1890 from the
21international fire code regulations and to provide for an
22inspection fee of not more than $100 for such facilities.
23The state fire marshal is directed to collaborate with the
24department of human services, the department of inspections and
25appeals, and other appropriate agencies and is required to take
26into consideration the size, nature, and purpose of children’s
27residential facilities in promulgating such rules.
