House Study Bill 254 - IntroducedA Bill ForAn Act 1relating to fire safety standards and children’s

3BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
1   Section 1.  STATE FIRE MARSHAL RULES — CHILDREN’S
2RESIDENTIAL FACILITIES.
  The state fire marshal shall
3adopt fire safety rules pursuant to chapter 17A to exempt
4children’s residential facilities certified pursuant to
5chapter 237C that are college preparatory boarding and day high
6schools established in 1890 from the international fire code
7regulations. The state fire marshal shall, in collaboration
8with the department of human services, the department of
9inspections and appeals, and other appropriate agencies, take
10into consideration the size, nature, and purpose of children’s
11residential facilities in promulgating such rules.
12EXPLANATION
13The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
14the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
   15This bill directs the state fire marshal to adopt fire safety
16rules to exempt children’s residential facilities certified
17pursuant to Code chapter 237C that are college preparatory
18boarding and day high schools established in 1890 from the
19international fire code regulations. The state fire marshal
20is directed to collaborate with the department of human
21services, the department of inspections and appeals, and other
22appropriate agencies and is required to take into consideration
23the size, nature, and purpose of children’s residential
24facilities in promulgating such rules.
