House Concurrent Resolution 13 - Introduced

A Concurrent Resolution 1congratulating Google on its
2ten-year anniversary in the State of Iowa.
3WHEREAS, in 2009, Google’s Council Bluffs’ data
4center officially opened for business and is now, with
5its collective facilities, Google’s largest global data
6center;and
7WHEREAS, Google has invested more than $2.5 billion
8in its Iowa facilities and now employs more than 400
9people in the facilities;and
10WHEREAS, in the past 10 years, Google has awarded
11more than $1.1 million to local schools and nonprofits
12in Iowa, granted nearly $400,000 to the Council
13Bluffs School District, and provided hardware such as
14Chromebooks for area students;and
15WHEREAS, true to the mission of accessibility,
16Google partnered with the City of Council Bluffs to
17launch a free community Wi-Fi network that will be one
18of the largest community Wi-Fi networks in the country
19once completed;and
20WHEREAS, Google helps Iowa organizations
21learn digital skills necessary to grow in today’s
22technology-driven economy, providing $899 million in
23economic activity for Iowa businesses and nonprofits
24in 2017 alone, training thousands of Iowans over
25the last 10 years, and helping Iowa businesses make
26their products more readily available to customers
27worldwide;and
28WHEREAS, Google’s mission is to organize the world’s
-1-1information and make it universally accessible and
2useful;NOW THEREFORE,
   3BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
4THE SENATE CONCURRING, That the Iowa General
5Assembly congratulates Google and its employees for
6its continued commitment to the State of Iowa and
7leadership in preparing Iowans to expand their skills,
8careers, and businesses.
