House Resolution 10 - Introduced
An Act 1honoring Colonel Ralph Foster Tomlinson,
2originally from Manly, Iowa, and Suzanne Helen
3Tomlinson, originally from Galbraith, Iowa, for
4nearly half a century of voluntary service to Iowa.
5WHEREAS, Col.Ralph Foster Tomlinson served in six
6different countries for over 20 years in the United
7States Air Force;and
8WHEREAS, after his service in the United States
9Air Force, Col.Tomlinson and his wife, Suzanne
10Helen Tomlinson, continued to serve their community
11and country by volunteering their time, talent, and
12treasure through their service in the Iowa Wing of
13the Civil Air Patrol where they performed multiple
14search and rescue missions during emergencies, provided
15command staff and incident command services, and
16educated and trained members in search and rescue
17emergency services;and
18WHEREAS, Col.Tomlinson served as the Iowa Wing
19Commander of the Civil Air Patrol from 2004 to
202008;and
21WHEREAS, in 2008, Col.Tomlinson and Mrs.Tomlinson
22enrolled in the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary and
23utilized their talents and experience to assist Iowans
24in the floods of 2008 and 2013;and
25WHEREAS, Col.Tomlinson was deployed to help staff
26the Coast Guard’s flood operation in North Dakota;and
27WHEREAS, on behalf of the Coast Guard, Col.
28Tomlinson and Mrs.Tomlinson used their extensive
-1-1teaching skills to provide high-quality, nationwide
2instruction and training to the members of the Coast
3Guard Auxiliary regarding emergency services, diversity
4awareness, seamanship, search and rescue, and boating
5safety;and
6WHEREAS, Col.Tomlinson and Mrs.Tomlinson have
7provided their service, time, and talent without
8compensation or expectation of reward and at
9considerable personal expense;NOW THEREFORE,
10BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
11That the House of Representatives hereby honors and
12recognizes the significance of Colonel Ralph Foster
13Tomlinson and Suzanne Helen Tomlinson’s contribution
14and service to Iowa and is grateful and thankful for
15their many years of service in the United States Air
16Force, the Civil Air Patrol, and the United States
17Coast Guard Auxiliary.
