3employment.
4BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
1   Section 1.  NEW SECTION.  724.4D  Limitation on employers —
2firearms and ammunition.
   31.  For purposes of this section, “employee” includes a
4contract employee or volunteer.
   52.  An employer shall not prohibit an employee in possession
6of a permit issued pursuant to section 724.6 or 724.7 from
7carrying, transporting, or possessing a firearm or ammunition,
8if the firearm and ammunition are out of sight and inside the
9locked motor vehicle of the employee on the real property
10comprising the employee’s place of employment, provided the
11motor vehicle is parked in a location designated or allowed
12for employee parking, and if the carrying, transportation, or
13possession of the firearm or ammunition is otherwise lawful
14under the laws of this state.
   153.  An employer, owner, or lawful possessor of the property
16on which the employer is located shall be immune from any
17claim, cause of action, or lawsuit brought by any person
18seeking damages that are alleged, directly or indirectly, as a
19result of any firearm or ammunition brought onto the property
20of the employer, owner, or lawful possessor by an employee
21pursuant to this section.
22EXPLANATION
23The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
24the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
   25This bill provides that an employer shall not prohibit an
26employee, which includes contract employees and volunteers,
27who possess a professional or nonprofessional permit to carry
28weapons from carrying, transporting, or possessing a firearm or
29ammunition on the real property comprising the employee’s place
30of employment if the firearm and ammunition are out of sight
31and inside the locked motor vehicle of the employee, provided
32the vehicle is parked in a location designated or allowed for
33employee parking, and if the carrying, transportation, or
34possession of the firearm or ammunition is otherwise lawful
35under Iowa law. The bill further provides that an employer,

2employer is located is immune from any claim brought by any
3person seeking damages that are alleged to have been a result
4of a firearm or ammunition brought onto the property of the
5employer, owner, or lawful possessor by an employee pursuant
6to the bill.
