2BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
1   Section 1.  NEW SECTION.  702.6A  Crime of violence.
   2A “crime of violence” means an offense that has as an element
3of the offense the use, attempted use, or threatened use of
4physical force or power against the person or property of
5another.
6   Sec. 2.  NEW SECTION.  702.20B  Violence.
   7“Violence” means the intentional use of physical force or
8power, threatened or actual, against oneself, another person,
9or a group or community, which either results in or has a high
10likelihood of resulting in injury, death, or psychological
11harm.
12EXPLANATION
13The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
14the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
   15This bill defines the terms “crime of violence” and
16“violence”.
   17The bill provides that a crime of violence means an offense
18that has as an element of the offense the use, attempted use,
19or threatened use of physical force or power against the person
20or property of another.
   21The bill defines violence as the intentional use of physical
22force or power, threatened or actual, against oneself, another
23person, or a group or community, which either results in
24or has a high likelihood of resulting in injury, death, or
25psychological harm.
