2BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
1   Section 1.  Section 15.271, subsection 1, paragraph e, Code
22019, is amended to read as follows:
   3e.  A program shall be established to plan, acquire, develop,
4promote, operate, and
maintain a variety of welcome centers
5at strategic locations to meet the needs of travelers in the
6state. The program is intended to be accomplished by 1992.
7   Sec. 2.  Section 15.271, subsection 2, unnumbered paragraph
81, Code 2019, is amended to read as follows:
   9The primary goals of a statewide program for welcome centers
10are to provide travel-related services and tourism information
11 to travelers the following:.
12   Sec. 3.  Section 15.271, subsection 2, paragraphs a, b, and
13c, Code 2019, are amended by striking the paragraphs.
14   Sec. 4.  Section 15.272, unnumbered paragraph 1, Code 2019,
15is amended to read as follows:
   161.  The state agencies, as indicated in this section,

 authority shall undertake certain specific functions to
18implement the goals of a statewide program, including the pilot
19projects, for
 establish and administer a statewide welcome
20centers center programThe authority shall collaborate
21with other state agencies as necessary to coordinate the
22operation of such welcome centers and to provide information
23to travelers.

24   Sec. 5.  Section 15.272, subsection 1, Code 2019, is amended
25by striking the subsection.
26   Sec. 6.  Section 15.272, subsection 2, unnumbered paragraph
271, Code 2019, is amended to read as follows:
   28The responsibilities of the authority include the following:

 shall operate, manage, and maintain all state-owned and
30state-operated welcome centers, including the provision of
31travel-related services, and the collection and distribution
32of tourism information.

33   Sec. 7.  Section 15.272, subsection 2, paragraphs a, b, c, d,
34and e, Code 2019, are amended by striking the paragraphs.

   3This bill relates to the statewide welcome center program.
   4The bill requires the economic development authority
5to establish and administer a statewide welcome center
6program and to operate, manage, and maintain all state-owned
7and state-operated welcome centers. The authority is to
8collaborate with other state agencies as necessary to operate
9the welcome centers and to provide information to travelers.
   10Currently, there are detailed specific functions and
11responsibilities assigned to various state agencies in order to
12implement the general assembly’s goals for a statewide welcome
13center program.
