30EXPLANATION
31The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
32the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
33Current law does not require the department of natural
34resources to include on a hunting, fishing, or fur harvester
35license application a section where an applicant may request
-3-1that the applicant’s license indicate that the applicant is
2a donor under the revised uniform anatomical gift Act. This
3bill requires the department to include such a section. If
4any adult applicant or any minor applicant who is at least
514 years of age and has the signed approval of a parent or
6guardian requests that the applicant’s hunting, fishing, or
7fur harvester license indicate that the applicant is a donor
8under the revised uniform anatomical gift Act, the department
9must place a symbol on the applicant’s license that makes the
10indication. An applicant’s authorization to have the symbol
11placed on the applicant’s hunting, fishing, or fur harvester
12license is a valid method of making an anatomical gift under
13the bill.
14The bill requires the department to provide reasonable
15access to information to a procurement organization to
16ascertain whether an individual at or near death is a donor.
17The bill also requires the department to cooperate with a
18person that administers the Iowa donor registry for the purpose
19of transferring to the registry all relevant information
20regarding a donor’s making of an anatomical gift. The
21department shall also include instruction relating to becoming
22an organ donor under the revised uniform anatomical gift Act in
23its hunter education program curriculum.
