3Iowans.
4BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
1   Section 1.  Section 455A.14, subsection 2, Code 2019, is
2amended to read as follows:
   32.  a.  The fees established by the department pursuant to
4this section shall be in such amounts as may be determined
5by the department to be reasonably competitive with fees
6established in other public parks or recreation areas that
7provide the same or similar privileges and are located within
8sixty miles of the perimeter of the state park or recreation
9area for which the department is establishing fees. Such
10fees may be increased, reduced, or waived by the department
11for special promotional events or efforts or on the basis of
12special seasonal or holiday rates, on a statewide basis or on
13the basis of an individual state park or recreation area.
   14b.  If the department fixes fees for camping, use of rental
15facilities, or other special privileges, the department shall
16reduce such fees for residents who are sixty years of age
17or older by at least one-half the amount of each fee fixed
18pursuant to this section.
19EXPLANATION
20The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
21the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
   22Current law authorizes the department of natural resources
23to establish fees for camping, using rental facilities, and
24other special privileges at state parks and recreation areas.
25This bill provides that if the department fixes fees for
26camping, using rental facilities, or other special privileges,
27such fees shall be reduced for residents who are 60 years of
28age or older by at least half that amount.
