5BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
1 Section 1. Section 321.1, subsection 69, paragraph d, Code
22019, is amended to read as follows:
3d. Designed New motor vehicles designed to carry not
4more than nine persons as passengers or used and designed to
5carry not more than eleven passengers, either school owned
6or privately owned, which are used to transport pupils to
7activity events in which the pupils are participants or used
8to transport pupils to their homes in case of illness or
9other emergency situations. The vehicles operated under the
10provisions of this paragraph shall be operated by employees of
11the school district who are specifically approved by the local
12superintendent of schools for the assignment.
13EXPLANATION
14The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
15the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
16This bill adds to the exemptions from the definition of
17“school bus” motor vehicles designed to carry not more than 11
18passengers.
19Such vehicles can only be used to transport pupils to
20activity events the pupils are participating in or to transport
21a pupil home due to illness or an emergency situation.
