3BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
1   Section 1.  Section 321.285, subsection 5, paragraph a, Code
22019, is amended to read as follows:
   3a.  Notwithstanding any other speed restrictions, the speed
4limit for all vehicular traffic on fully controlled-access,
5divided, multilaned highways is sixty-five miles per hour.
6However, the speed limit for all vehicular traffic on highways
7that are part of the interstate road system, as defined in
8section 306.3, is seventy seventy-five miles per hour. The
9department may establish a speed limit of sixty-five miles per
10hour on certain divided, multilaned highways not otherwise
11described in this paragraph.
12EXPLANATION
13The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
14the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
   15Under current law, the speed limit on highways that are part
16of the interstate road system is 70 miles per hour. This bill
17increases the speed limit on highways that are part of the
18interstate road system to 75 miles per hour.
