Received A.A. from Iowa Central Community College and B.A. from Buena Vista University. Graduate studies at the Taft Institute of Government at Macalester College in St. Paul, MN, and received M.P.A. from Drake University. Two- time member of the Fort Dodge School Board and was elected justice of the peace. Served as member of Young Democrats National Committee, ambassador for the Fort Dodge Chamber of Commerce, board member for Habitat for Humanity, Hawkeye Community Theatre board member, Izaak Walton League member, and Fort Dodge Kiwanis. Member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Representative for the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Mission One assigned to the 133rd Air National Guard squadron. Wife Jo Ann; three children and seven grandchildren. Serving first term in Senate.
