Convention Member Calvin J. Price
CALVIN J. PRICE Born in 1811 in Smithfield, North Carolina. His first marriage was to Mary Conley of Cairo, Illinois. Mr. Price and his wife settled in Lee County in the 1840’s where he was a merchant and ran a hotel. During the first year of his residence there his wife died, and in August 1838, he married Frances Longford. Mr. Price was a native of the State of North Carolina, but had resided in the Territory and State of Iowa for the last twenty-four years. He was a member of the first Legislative Assembly, Fourth and Eight General Assemblies, and a delegate to the 1844 Constitutional Convention.
