Convention Member Jesse Blankenship
Born in Bedford County, Virginia, in 1808. He was one of the first settlers in Soap Creek Township. No settlement was made in this township until 1843 when the white man was allowed to settle any part of the county although many of the first settlers had been here before then and selected claims. Mr. Blankenship was elected one of the delegates to the first Constitutional Convention of Iowa in 1844, and was a prominent and leading politician in his township.
