H.F. 675 Section 1. Section 272.31, Code 2021, is amended by adding 1 the following new subsection: 2 NEW SUBSECTION . 3A. The board shall issue a substitute 3 authorization that allows an individual to substitute in 4 grades prekindergarten through twelve for no more than ten 5 consecutive days in a thirty-day period in one job assignment 6 for a regularly assigned teacher who is absent, except in the 7 driver’s education classroom. A school district administrator 8 may file a written request with the board for an extension 9 of the ten-day limit in one job assignment in a thirty-day 10 period on the basis of documented need and benefit to the 11 instructional program. The executive director or appointee 12 shall review the request and provide a written decision 13 either approving or denying the request. A substitute teacher 14 authorization shall require not less than the successful 15 completion of an associate degree or not less than sixty 16 undergraduate semester hours, or the equivalent, from a college 17 or university accredited by an institutional accrediting agency 18 recognized by the United States department of education. 19 -1- HF 675 (3) 89 kh/jh/md 1/ 1
