S.F. 337 Section 1. Section 272.2, Code 2013, is amended by adding 1 the following new subsection: 2 NEW SUBSECTION . 19. Adopt rules requiring individuals 3 applying for renewal of a license, certificate, authorization, 4 or statement of recognition issued by the board who provide 5 a service to students to undergo training on suicide 6 prevention and trauma-informed care prior to each renewal. In 7 coordination with the department of education, the department 8 of public health, and stakeholders, including but not limited 9 to mental health professionals, school administrators, school 10 nurses, and guidance counselors, the board shall select 11 qualified programs for such training. For purposes of this 12 subsection, “trauma-informed care” means services that are based 13 on an understanding of the vulnerabilities and triggers of 14 individuals who have experienced trauma, recognize the role 15 trauma has played in the lives of those individuals, recognize 16 the presence of trauma symptoms and their onset, are supportive 17 of trauma recovery, and avoid further traumatization. 18 -1- SF 337 (3) 85 je/sc/jh 1/ 1
