1 An Act requiring the department of transportation to conduct a
2 statewide conference concerning antenna structures affecting
3 aviation safety.
4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:

1 1 Section 1. ANTENNA STRUCTURES AND AVIATION SAFETY
1 1 == CONFERENCE. The department of transportation shall
1 1 convene a statewide conference involving emergency
1 1 medical services helicopter crew members and other
1 1 interested parties to address the possible dangers
1 1 posed for aircraft by antenna structures that extend
1 1 into navigable airspace but are not required to comply
1 1 with marking and lighting specifications assigned by
1 1 the federal communications commission. The conference
1 1 shall consider whether state marking or lighting
1 1 requirements should be established for digital
1 1 television towers, cell phone towers, or other antenna
1 1 structures in order to improve aviation safety. The
1 1 department shall report the conference findings and
1 1 any recommendations, which may include recommended
1 1 statutory changes, to the senate and house standing
1 1 committees on transportation on or before December 31,
1 1 2007.
