NEW
SECTION
.
48A.33A
Verification
of
1
citizenship.
2
Prior
to
registering
a
registrant
to
vote,
the
registrar
3
shall
attempt
to
verify
the
registrant’s
United
States
4
citizenship
using
the
systematic
alien
verification
for
5
entitlements
system
of
the
United
States
citizenship
and
6
immigration
services.
The
registrar
shall
not
register
the
7
registrant
to
vote
if
the
registrar
is
unable
to
verify
the
8
United
States
citizenship
of
the
registrant.
The
registrant
9
may
appeal
the
registrar’s
decision
to
the
district
court
in
10
the
registrar’s
county,
and
the
decision
of
the
court
shall
be
11
final.

does
not
constitute
agreement
with

the
explanation’s

the
members

the
general
assembly.

This
bill
requires
a
county
commissioner
of
registration
16
(registrar)
to
verify
the
U.S.
citizenship
of
a
person
using
17
the
systematic
alien
verification
for
entitlements
system
18
of
the
U.S.
citizenship
and
immigration
services
prior
to
19
registering
the
person
to
vote.
The
bill
prohibits
a
registrar
20
from
registering
a
person
to
vote
if
the
registrar
is
unable
21
to
verify
the
U.S.
citizenship
of
the
person.
The
bill
allows
22
a
person
to
appeal
the
decision
of
a
registrar
to
the
district
23
court
in
the
registrar’s
county,
and
the
decision
of
the
court
24
shall
be
final.
