recognizing
and
commending
the
National

Conference
of
State
Legislatures
on
its
fiftieth

anniversary.

WHEREAS,
the
National
Conference
of
State
4
Legislatures
was
created
in
1975
from
the
merger
5
of
three
organizations
that
served
or
represented
6
state
legislatures
and
that
shared
the
belief
that
7
legislative
service
is
one
of
democracy’s
worthiest
8
pursuits;
and
9
WHEREAS,
the
National
Conference
of
State
10
Legislatures
has
evolved
during
the
past
half-century
11
to
become
the
premier
organization
solely
dedicated
12
to
serving
state
and
territorial
legislators
and
13
legislative
staff;
and
14
WHEREAS,
the
National
Conference
of
State
15
Legislatures
is
a
bipartisan
organization
with
16
three
objectives:
to
advance
the
effectiveness,
17
independence,
and
integrity
of
state
legislatures;
to
18
foster
interstate
communication
and
cooperation;
and
to
19
ensure
states
a
strong,
cohesive
voice
in
the
federal
20
system;
and
21
WHEREAS,
our
nation’s
state
legislatures
are
22
America’s
laboratories
of
democracy,
have
continually
23
shown
that
state
legislatures
are
the
bodies
to
24
address
emerging
challenges,
and
are
where
people
25
from
different
backgrounds,
representing
different
26
communities,
can
come
together
and
find
common
ground,
27
and
the
National
Conference
of
State
Legislatures

has
supported
state
legislatures
by
facilitating
the

exchange
of
ideas,
providing
critical
research
and
2
information,
encouraging
a
rigorous
review
of
complex

issues
confronting
communities,
states,
and
the
nation,

and
striving
to
strengthen
the
bonds
between
America’s
5
state
legislatures
and
the
international
community;
NOW
6
THEREFORE,
7
BE
IT
RESOLVED
BY
THE
SENATE,
That
the
Senate
8
recognizes
and
commends
the
National
Conference
of
9
State
Legislatures
for
its
superb
leadership
and
10
commitment
to
the
legislative
institution;
and
11
BE
IT
FURTHER
RESOLVED,
That
upon
adoption,
the
12
Secretary
of
the
Senate
shall
transmit
a
copy
of
13
this
resolution
to
the
National
Conference
of
State
14
Legislatures.
