Senate Resolution 121 - Introduced SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 121 BY COMMITTEE ON RULES AND ADMINISTRATION A Resolution honoring Senator Izaah Knox for his 1 service in the Iowa Senate. 2 WHEREAS, Senator Izaah Knox was first elected to the 3 Senate in November 2022, and has proudly served the 4 people of Des Moines and Senate district 17; and 5 WHEREAS, Senator Knox is a native Iowan and 6 currently resides in Des Moines with his wife Jenna and 7 three children Chance, Porter, and Johnnie; and 8 WHEREAS, Senator Knox diligently worked to bring the 9 people of Iowa together by working across the aisle 10 on legislation and coordinating events including the 11 Senate page dinner; and 12 WHEREAS, Senator Knox has worked to lift up the 13 people of Iowa through countless trips to the Capitol 14 dome; and 15 WHEREAS, Senator Knox graduated from Drake 16 University with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a 17 master’s degree in education, is currently pursuing a 18 Ph.D. in educational leadership and policy studies from 19 Iowa State University, and graduated from the Goldman 20 Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program; and 21 WHEREAS, in 2024, Senator Knox was honored as a 22 Top 500 Iowa Influential Business Leader and received 23 the Des Moines Area Community College Alumni Impact 24 Award; and 25 WHEREAS, during his Senate tenure, Senator Knox has 26 served on the Agriculture, Appropriations, Commerce 27 (ranking member), Judiciary, Local Government, Natural 28 -1- LSB 6941SV (8) 91 nls/jm 1/ 2
S.R. 121 Resources and Environment (ranking member), and 1 Technology committees; the Education Appropriations 2 Subcommittee and Justice System Appropriations 3 Subcommittee (ranking member); the Capital Projects 4 Committee; Economic Development Authority Board; 5 Iowa Law Enforcement Academy Council; the Legislative 6 Council; and the Iowa Legislative Black & Brown 7 Caucus; and 8 WHEREAS, Senator Knox currently serves as the 9 executive director of Urban Dreams, a Des Moines 10 community services nonprofit, with a mission to create 11 equal opportunity and access for people to pursue their 12 dreams; and 13 WHEREAS, Senator Knox has further demonstrated his 14 commitment to civic engagement through his volunteer 15 and leadership roles for several Des Moines area 16 organizations and institutions, including the Children 17 and Family Urban Movement, Bankers Trust Community 18 Advisory Board, Drake University Community Advisory, 19 American Heart Association, Food Bank of Iowa, 20 Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines, Pro Iowa 21 Advisory Council, and the Board of Trustees for Simpson 22 College; NOW THEREFORE, 23 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate honors 24 Senator Izaah Knox for his years of public service to 25 the people of Iowa and wishes him all the best in the 26 years to come. 27 -2- LSB 6941SV (8) 91 nls/jm 2/ 2
