Senate Resolution 118 - Introduced SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 118 BY COMMITTEE ON RULES AND ADMINISTRATION A Resolution honoring Senator Jack Whitver for his 1 service in the Iowa Senate. 2 WHEREAS, in 2011 Senator Jack Whitver was first 3 elected to the Iowa Senate where he served in multiple 4 leadership roles representing his constituents; and 5 WHEREAS, Senator Whitver is a proud lifelong Iowan, 6 having grown up in Grinnell and then graduating from 7 the Iowa State University of Science and Technology 8 where he started as a wide receiver on the Cyclones 9 football team and finished his playing career ranked in 10 the team’s top 10 for all-time career receptions and 11 receiving yards; and 12 WHEREAS, immediately following his graduation from 13 Iowa State University having earned both a Bachelor 14 of Science and a Master of Business Administration, 15 Senator Whitver started his first small business that 16 he grew into various other businesses, relying on both 17 the values with which he was raised and his experience 18 founding and growing a small business to shape his 19 political philosophy; and 20 WHEREAS, shortly after his first election to the 21 Senate, Senator Whitver earned his Juris Doctor from 22 Drake University Law School where he was named to the 23 Drake Law Review; and 24 WHEREAS, Senator Whitver was elected President of 25 the Senate by his colleagues in November 2016 and then 26 in March 2018, Senator Whitver was first elected as 27 the Senate Majority Leader, a position to which he was 28 -1- LSB 6934SV (5) 91 th/jm 1/ 3
S.R. 118 reelected after the 2020 election, the 2022 election, 1 and the 2024 election; and 2 WHEREAS, Senator Whitver led one of the most 3 conservative, productive, and largest chamber 4 majorities in Iowa history, eventually gaining a 5 Republican supermajority in the Senate under his 6 leadership, which was the first time either party 7 held such a majority in over half a century, all 8 while prioritizing conservative legislative goals 9 including simplifying the regulatory structure in 10 Iowa, historically reducing income tax, and strongly 11 protecting life and the Second Amendment, while 12 also focusing on solutions to critical issues like 13 protecting girls’ sports and private spaces, welfare 14 reform, tort reform, and election integrity; and 15 WHEREAS, during his Senate tenure, Senator Whitver 16 has served on the Appropriations, Commerce, Economic 17 Growth, Government Oversight, Human Resources, 18 Judiciary, Labor and Business Relations, Rules 19 and Administration (chair), and State Government 20 committees; the Legislative Council (chair and vice 21 chair), the Administration Committee (chair and vice 22 chair), the Service Committee (chair and vice chair), 23 the Studies Committee (chair and vice chair), and 24 the Capital Projects Committee; the Council on Human 25 Services, the Healthy and Well Kids in Iowa (Hawki) 26 Board, the Iowa Innovation Council, the Iowa Law 27 Enforcement Academy Council, the Medical Assistance 28 Projections and Assessment Council; and the State 29 Government Efficiency Review Committee; and 30 -2- LSB 6934SV (5) 91 th/jm 2/ 3
S.R. 118 WHEREAS, Senator Whitver is a faithful member of the 1 Lutheran Church of Hope and continues to enjoy his work 2 as an entrepreneur and attorney; and 3 WHEREAS, Senator Whitver looks forward to spending 4 more time with his wife Rachel and three children, 5 pursuing his next endeavors, and will be forever 6 grateful to the citizens of his district for placing 7 their trust in him; NOW THEREFORE, 8 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate honors 9 Senator Jack Whitver for his dedicated service to the 10 people of Iowa and wishes him all the best in the years 11 to come. 12 -3- LSB 6934SV (5) 91 th/jm 3/ 3
