S.F. 577 Section 1. Section 716.11, subsection 1, paragraph c, Code 1 2025, is amended to read as follows: 2 c. A telecommunications or service, information service, 3 or cable service as defined in 47 U.S.C. §153, a wireless 4 service as defined in section 8C.2, or a broadband generation, 5 transmission, or delivery system. 6 EXPLANATION 7 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 8 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 9 This bill relates to critical infrastructure sabotage. 10 The bill provides that “critical infrastructure” includes 11 a telecommunications service, information service, or cable 12 service as defined in 47 U.S.C. §153, or a wireless service as 13 defined in Code section 8C.2. 14 A person who, overtly, intentionally, and without 15 authorization, causes or has the means to cause, and in 16 substantial furtherance of causing, a substantial and 17 widespread interruption or impairment of a fundamental 18 service rendered by critical infrastructure commits critical 19 infrastructure sabotage, a class “B” felony, and is subject to 20 confinement for no more than 25 years and a fine of not less 21 than $85,000 nor more than $100,000. 22 -1- LSB 2540SV (2) 91 as/js 1/ 1
