PLANS

REPORT.

1.
As
used
in
this
section:
3
a.
“Automated
external
defibrillator”
means
a
lightweight,
4
portable
device
that
delivers
an
electric
shock
through
the
5
chest
to
the
heart
to
stop
an
irregular
heartbeat
and
allow
6
normal
heartbeat
rhythm
to
resume
following
cardiac
arrest.
7
b.
“Cardiac
emergency
response
plan”
means
a
written
8
document
that
establishes
the
specific
steps
to
be
taken
by
9
employees
or
contractors
of
a
school
to
respond
to
incidents
10
involving
an
individual
experiencing
cardiac
arrest
or
a
11
similar
life-threatening
emergency
on
school
property,
during
12
physical
education,
during
an
extracurricular
athletic
activity
13
or
contest,
during
practice
associated
with
an
extracurricular
14
athletic
activity
or
contest,
or
during
a
school-sponsored
15
activity,
and
to
reduce
the
likelihood
of
the
individual’s
16
death
from
cardiac
arrest
or
a
similar
life-threatening
17
emergency.

c.
“School”
means
all
of
the
following:
19
(1)
A
school
district
organized
pursuant
to
chapter
274.
20
(2)
An
accredited
nonpublic
school.
21
(3)
A
charter
school
established
pursuant
to
chapter
256E.
22
(4)
A
charter
school
or
innovation
zone
school
established
23
pursuant
to
chapter
256F.

2.
The
department
of
education,
in
coordination
with
each
25
school,
shall
prepare
a
report
that
includes
information
26
related
to
all
of
the
following:
27
a.
The
number
of
schools
that
have
adopted
and
implemented
a
28
cardiac
emergency
response
plan.
29
b.
The
number
of
automated
external
defibrillators
owned
by
30
each
school
and
where
each
automated
external
defibrillator
is
31
located
on
such
school’s
property.

3.
The
department
of
education
shall
submit
the
report
33
described
in
subsection
2
to
the
general
assembly
on
or
before
34
January
15,
2027.

bill
requires
the

school
and
where
each
automated

property.

The
department
of
education
is
required
to
submit
the
report
to

the
general
assembly
on
or
before
January
15,
2027.
The
bill

defines
“automated
external
defibrillator”,
“cardiac
emergency
12
response
plan”,
and
“school”.
