Section 239.6, subsection 1, paragraph a, 1 subparagraph (4), Code 2026, is amended to read as follows: 2 (4) Information maintained by the United States citizenship 3 and immigration services of the United States department of 4 homeland security , including information accessible through the 5 systematic alien verification for entitlements online service . 6 Sec. 2. Section 239.6, subsection 2, Code 2026, is amended 7 by adding the following new paragraph: 8 NEW PARAGRAPH . g. The systematic alien verification for 9 entitlements online service maintained by the United States 10 citizenship and immigration services of the United States 11 department of homeland security to verify immigration and 12 United States citizenship information. 13 EXPLANATION 14 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 15 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 16 This bill relates to eligibility for certain public 17 assistance programs. “Public assistance program”, as defined 18 in Code section 239.2, means the supplemental nutrition 19 assistance program (SNAP), the medical assistance program 20 (Medicaid), the family investment program (FIP), and the 21 children’s health insurance program (CHIP). 22 The bill requires HHS, prior to determining the initial 23 eligibility of an applicant for, or the ongoing eligibility 24 of a recipient of, public assistance benefits to verify 25 immigration and United States citizenship information of 26 the applicant or recipient through the systematic alien 27 verification for entitlements online service maintained by 28 the United States citizenship and immigration services of the 29 United States department of homeland security. 30 -1- LSB 6115XS (3) 91 ak/ko 1/ 1
