S.F. 2165 Section 1. Section 1.18, Code 2026, is amended by adding the 1 following new subsection: 2 NEW SUBSECTION . 2A. The Oxford English dictionary is hereby 3 adopted as the official dictionary of the state of Iowa. 4 EXPLANATION 5 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 6 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 7 This bill adopts the Oxford English dictionary as the 8 official state dictionary. 9 The provisions of Code section 1.18 (Iowa English language 10 reaffirmation) do not apply to, among other things, tourism and 11 commerce, public health and safety, language education, and 12 communication by a member of the general assembly or an officer 13 of state government. 14 -1- LSB 5289XS (1) 91 sc/ns 1/ 1
