S.F. 148 Section 1. Section 483A.24, subsection 2, paragraph b, Code 1 2025, is amended to read as follows: 2 b. Upon written application on forms furnished by the 3 department, the department shall issue annually without fee one 4 wild turkey license to the owner of a farm unit or to a member 5 of the owner’s family, but not to both, and to the tenant or 6 to a member of the tenant’s family, but not to both. The wild 7 turkey hunting licenses issued shall be valid only on the 8 farm unit for which an applicant qualifies pursuant to this 9 subsection and shall be equivalent to the least restrictive 10 license issued under section 481A.38 . The owner or the tenant 11 need not reside on the farm unit to qualify for a free license 12 to hunt on that farm unit. The free turkey hunting licenses 13 issued pursuant to this paragraph shall be valid and may be 14 used during any bow or firearm open turkey hunting season using 15 a method of take authorized for that season, subject to any 16 other restrictions that may apply, without first designating a 17 season of use for the license . Each license issued under this 18 paragraph authorizes the person issued the license to harvest 19 one wild turkey. 20 EXPLANATION 21 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 22 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 23 Under current law, one wild turkey license without fee 24 is issued to each owner of a farm unit or to a member of the 25 owner’s family and to the tenant of the farm unit or a member of 26 the tenant’s family for use on that farm unit. A special wild 27 turkey hunting license is valid and may be used during any bow 28 or firearm turkey hunting season. 29 This bill allows a special wild turkey hunting license to be 30 used during any open turkey hunting season using the method of 31 take authorized for use during that season and authorizes the 32 person issued the license to harvest only one turkey. 33 -1- LSB 1037SV (2) 91 sb/js 1/ 1
