SECTION

27A.12
Failure
to
comply.
1
1.
Any
law
enforcement
officer,
including
an
elected
2
sheriff,
who
knowingly
and
intentionally
fails
to
comply
with
3
the
requirements
of
this
chapter
shall,
upon
conviction,
be
4
guilty
of
a
class
“D”
felony.

2.
A
conviction
under
subsection
1
shall
be
grounds
6
for
mandatory
revocation
of
a
law
enforcement
officer’s
7
certification
by
the
Iowa
law
enforcement
academy
pursuant
to
8
section
80B.13A,
subsection
2,
paragraph
“a”
.

EXPLANATION
10
The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with
11
the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
bill
relates
to
the
enforcement
of
immigration
laws.
13
The
bill
provides
that
any
law
enforcement
officer,
14
including
an
elected
sheriff,
who
knowingly
and
intentionally
15
fails
to
comply
with
the
requirements
of
Code
chapter
27A
16
(enforcement
of
immigration
laws)
shall,
upon
conviction,
be
17
guilty
of
a
class
“D”
felony.
A
class
“D”
felony
is
punishable
18
by
confinement
for
no
more
than
five
years
and
a
fine
of
at
19
least
$1,025
but
not
more
than
$10,245.
20
The
bill
provides
that
conviction
under
the
bill
shall
be
21
grounds
for
mandatory
revocation
of
a
law
enforcement
officer’s
22
certification
by
the
Iowa
law
enforcement
academy.
