House Resolution 103 - Introduced HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 103 BY COLLINS A Resolution calling upon the United States Congress 1 to support efforts to recognize all United States 2 troops who served in Honduras from 1981 to 1992. 3 WHEREAS, the House of Representatives believes 4 military members and veterans who serve or have served 5 in hostile environments should be recognized; and 6 WHEREAS, the United States military maintained a 7 presence in Honduras throughout and beyond the 1980s, 8 providing training to and conducting military exercises 9 with the host nation’s military; and 10 WHEREAS, the buildup and presence of United States 11 troops served as a deterrent to Nicaraguan aggression 12 in the region and also a means of building up support 13 for democratic values via civil action in Honduran 14 communities; and 15 WHEREAS, United States troops were equipped with 16 live ammunition and assisted the Honduran military in 17 training and combat support capacities; and 18 WHEREAS, United States troops reported experiencing 19 hostile fire and imminent danger; and 20 WHEREAS, at least one United States service member 21 received a Purple Heart for injuries sustained as a 22 result of terrorist activity while serving in Honduras 23 in 1990; and 24 WHEREAS, United States troops lost their lives 25 while conducting various military duties while in 26 Honduras due to terrorist activity and other hazardous 27 circumstances; NOW THEREFORE, 28 -1- LSB 5023YH (2) 91 ak/jh 1/ 2
H.R. 103 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, That 1 the House of Representatives calls upon the United 2 States Congress to support efforts to issue an Armed 3 Forces Expeditionary Medal, or similar recognition of 4 having served in an area of hostility, to all United 5 States troops who served in Honduras from 1981 to 6 1992; and 7 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Chief Clerk of 8 the House of Representatives shall forward copies of 9 this resolution to the President of the United States 10 Senate, the Speaker of the United States House of 11 Representatives, the Majority and Minority Leaders of 12 the United States Senate, the Majority and Minority 13 Leaders of the United States House of Representatives, 14 and to each member of the Iowa congressional 15 delegation. 16 -2- LSB 5023YH (2) 91 ak/jh 2/ 2
