1.
The
following
amendment
to
the
Constitution
of

the
State
of
Iowa
is
proposed:

Constitution
of
the
State
of
Iowa
is
amended
by
adding

the
following
new
section
to
a
new
article:

LIFETIME
TERM
LIMITS.

Section
1.
Certain
elected
officials
——
lifetime
term
7
limits.
A
person
shall
not
be
elected
or
appointed
to
a
term
as
8
governor,
lieutenant
governor,
secretary
of
state,
secretary
9
of
agriculture,
auditor
of
state,
treasurer
of
state,
attorney
10
general,
representative
in
the
general
assembly,
or
senator
in
11
the
general
assembly
if
the
person
will
have
served
twenty-four
12
years
in
any
of
those
offices
or
any
combination
of
those
13
offices
prior
to
the
commencement
of
the
term.

Sec.
2.
REFERRAL
AND
PUBLICATION.
The
foregoing
proposed
15
amendment
to
the
Constitution
of
the
State
of
Iowa
is
referred
16
to
the
general
assembly
to
be
chosen
at
the
next
general
17
election
for
members
of
the
general
assembly,
and
shall
be
18
published
as
provided
by
law
for
three
months
previous
to
the
19
date
of
that
election.

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with

the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
joint
resolution
proposes
an
amendment
to
the
24
Constitution
of
the
State
of
Iowa
limiting
years
of
service
25
for
persons
elected
or
appointed
to
the
office
of
state
26
representative,
state
senator,
governor,
lieutenant
governor,
27
secretary
of
state,
secretary
of
agriculture,
auditor
of
state,
28
treasurer
of
state,
or
attorney
general.
The
resolution
29
provides
that
a
person
shall
not
be
elected
or
appointed
to
a
30
term
in
those
offices
if
the
person
will
have
served
24
years
31
in
any
of
those
offices
or
any
combination
thereof
prior
to
the
32
commencement
of
the
term.

The
resolution,
if
adopted,
would
be
referred
to
the
next
34
general
assembly

for
adoption
before
being
submitted
to
