A
Joint
Resolution
urging
the
United
States
Congress
to
propose

an
amendment
to
the
Constitution
of
the
United
States
2
to
require
the
Supreme
Court
of
the
United
States
to
be

composed
of
nine
justices.

WHEREAS,
the
independence
of
the
Supreme
Court
of
the
United
5
States
is
essential
to
the
preservation
of
our
constitutional
6
system
of
government;
and
7
WHEREAS,
expanding
the
number
of
justices
on
the
Supreme
8
Court
of
the
United
States
for
political
purposes
threatens
9
the
Supreme
Court’s
long-term
stability
and
undermines
public
10
confidence
in
our
judiciary;
and
11
WHEREAS,
an
amendment
to
the
Constitution
of
the
United
12
States
is
necessary
to
ensure
that
the
number
of
Supreme
Court
13
justices
remains
fixed
at
nine;
NOW
THEREFORE,

BE
IT
RESOLVED
BY
THE
GENERAL
ASSEMBLY
OF
THE
STATE
OF
IOWA:

the
General
Assembly
of
the
State
of
Iowa
urges
1
the
United
States
Congress
to
propose
an
amendment
to
the

Constitution
of
the
United
States
that
reads
“The
supreme
Court

of
the
United
States
shall
be
composed
of
nine
Judges.”;
and
4
BE
IT
FURTHER
RESOLVED,
That
the
Secretary
of
the
Senate
5
shall
send
certified
copies
of
this
resolution
to
the
6
President
of
the
United
States,
the
President
of
the
United
7
States
Senate,
the
Speaker
of
the
United
States
House
of
8
Representatives,
and
members
of
the
Iowa
congressional
9
delegation.
