H.F. 265 Section 1. PUBLIC SAFETY —— FIRE FIGHTER TRAINING AND 1 CERTIFICATION. By January 1, 2026, the department of public 2 safety shall revise the rules relating to fire fighter training 3 and certification to provide that a person who committed 4 any crime as an adult that resulted in the requirement that 5 the person be listed on a sex offender registry shall not 6 be certified as a fire fighter, including a volunteer fire 7 fighter. 8 EXPLANATION 9 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 10 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 11 This bill relates to fire fighter training and 12 certification. 13 The bill directs the department of public safety to revise 14 the rules relating to fire fighter training and certification 15 by January 1, 2026, to provide that a person who committed 16 any crime as an adult that resulted in the requirement that 17 the person be listed on a sex offender registry shall not 18 be certified as a fire fighter, including a volunteer fire 19 fighter. 20 -1- LSB 2364YH (2) 91 as/js 1/ 1
