H.F. 2091 Section 1. Section 714.8, Code 2026, is amended by adding 1 the following new subsection: 2 NEW SUBSECTION . 6A. For the purpose of obtaining employment 3 or other personal gain, falsely represents oneself as 4 possessing an academic degree or academic credentials. 5 Sec. 2. Section 714.10, subsection 1, Code 2026, is amended 6 by adding the following new paragraph: 7 NEW PARAGRAPH . c. A fraudulent practice as set forth in 8 section 714.8, subsection 6A. 9 EXPLANATION 10 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 11 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 12 This bill relates to fraudulent practices involving academic 13 credentials. 14 The bill provides that a person who falsely represents 15 oneself as possessing an academic degree or academic 16 credentials for the purpose of obtaining employment or other 17 personal gain is guilty of a fraudulent practice in the second 18 degree. A fraudulent practice in the second degree is a class 19 “D” felony. A class “D” felony is punishable by confinement 20 for no more than five years and a fine of at least $1,025 but 21 not more than $10,245. 22 -1- LSB 5135YH (2) 91 as/js 1/ 1
