1.
Section
144.26,
Code
2024,
is
amended
by
adding
1
the
following
new
subsection:

NEW
SUBSECTION
.
3A.
The
department
shall
provide
for
3
correction
and
substitution
of
a
death
certificate
if
evidence
4
substantiating
the
correction
or
substitution
is
presented
5
to
the
state
registrar
within
twelve
months
of
the
filing
of
6
the
death
certificate.
The
death
certificate
shall
be
marked
7
“amended”
and
comply
with
other
requirements
pursuant
to
8
sections
144.38
and
144.41.

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with
11
the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
bill
relates
to
the
correction
and
substitution
of
13
death
certificates.
14
The
bill
provides
that
the
department
of
health
and
15
human
services
(HHS)
shall
provide
for
the
correction
and
16
substitution
of
a
death
certificate
when
substantiated
evidence
17
of
a
mistake
is
presented
to
the
state
registrar
within
12
18
months
of
the
filing
of
the
death
certificate.
The
death
19
certificate
shall
be
marked
“amended”
and
comply
with
other
20
requirements
pursuant
to
Code
sections
144.38
(amendment
of
21
official
record)
and
144.41
(amending
local
records).
