An individual who submits an application pursuant to 3 subsection 1 shall, at a minimum, submit proof of successful 4 completion of a two-year or four-year police science or 5 criminal justice program at an accredited educational 6 institution in this state approved by the academy. 7 EXPLANATION 8 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 9 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 10 This bill relates to short course law enforcement training 11 requirements. 12 Currently, an individual who is not a certified law 13 enforcement officer may apply for attendance at a short course 14 of study at an approved law enforcement training program if 15 the individual is sponsored by a law enforcement agency. An 16 individual who submits an application shall, at a minimum, 17 submit proof of successful completion of a two-year or 18 four-year police science or criminal justice program at an 19 accredited educational institution in this state approved by 20 the academy. 21 The bill removes the requirement that the two-year or 22 four-year police science or criminal justice program must be 23 from an accredited educational institution in Iowa, but retains 24 the requirement that the two-year or four-year police science 25 or criminal justice program be completed at an accredited 26 educational institution approved by the academy. 27 -1- LSB 5383XD (2) 90 as/js 1/ 1
