S.F. _____ Section 1. Section 228.1, subsection 7, unnumbered 1 paragraph 1, Code 2023, is amended to read as follows: 2 “Mental health professional” means an individual who has 3 either any of the following qualifications: 4 Sec. 2. Section 228.1, subsection 7, Code 2023, is amended 5 by adding the following new paragraph: 6 NEW PARAGRAPH . c. The individual is an occupational 7 therapist licensed pursuant to chapter 148B and has completed 8 at least one of the following: 9 (1) A supervised clinical practicum experience relating to 10 occupational therapy from an accredited educational institution 11 or its cooperating programs in a psychiatric setting. 12 (2) One year of work experience which included providing 13 occupational therapy services in a psychiatric setting as a 14 primary duty. 15 EXPLANATION 16 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 17 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 18 This bill adds to the definition of “mental health 19 professional” for the purposes of Code chapter 228 (disclosure 20 of mental health and psychological information) an individual 21 who is an occupational therapist licensed in Iowa who has 22 completed either a supervised clinical practicum experience 23 relating to occupational therapy from an accredited educational 24 institution or its cooperating programs in a psychiatric 25 setting or one year of work experience which included providing 26 occupational therapy services in a psychiatric setting as a 27 primary duty, or both. 28 The definition of “mental health professional” in 29 Code chapter 228 is also used in Code chapters 125 30 (substance-related disorders), 135G (subacute mental 31 health care facilities), 225 (psychiatric hospital), 229 32 (hospitalization of persons with mental illness), 272 33 (educational examiners board), 280A (behavioral health services 34 —— school settings), and 331 (county home rule implementation). 35 -1- LSB 1471XC (3) 90 dg/rh 1/ 1
