employed
at
a

additional
emergency
management
personnel
appointed
by

a
local
emergency
management
commission
pursuant
to
section
8
29C.9,
subsection
7.

Sec.
2.
SERVICE
RECLASSIFICATION.
Notwithstanding
any
10
provision
of
law
to
the
contrary,
a
member
of
the
Iowa
public
11
employees’
retirement
system
whose
prior
regular
service
12
position
is
reclassified
by
this
Act
as
a
protective
occupation
13
service
position
shall
have
service
by
such
member
prior
to
the
14
effective
date
of
this
Act
coded
as
service
in
a
protection
15
occupation
by
the
Iowa
public
employees’
retirement
system
16
if
certified
by
the
employer
of
the
member
as
constituting
17
protection
occupation
service
under
this
Act.
Membership
18
service
shall
be
reclassified
as
provided
by
this
Act
without
19
any
requirement
to
pay
additional
contributions
for
the
payment
20
of
the
related
actuarial
costs
of
such
reclassified
service.

Sec.
3.
EFFECTIVE
DATE.
This
Act,
being
deemed
of
immediate
22
importance,
takes
effect
upon
enactment.

EXPLANATION
24
The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with
25
the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.
26
This
bill
provides
that
persons
employed
as
a
public
safety
27
telecommunicator
or
as
an
emergency
management
coordinator
28
under
the
Iowa
public
employees’
retirement
system
(IPERS)
29
shall
be
included
within
the
protection
occupation
category
30
of
IPERS.
The
bill
provides
that
membership
service
prior
31
to
the
effective
date
of
the
bill
shall
be
reclassified
32
as
protection
occupation
service
without
payment
of
any
33
additional
contributions
to
pay
the
actuarial
costs
of
the
34
reclassified
service
if
the
employer
certifies
the
employment
