S.F. 2326 Section 1. PELICAN STUDY. The department of natural 1 resources shall conduct a one-year study of pelican predation 2 on fish and other aquatic life in Iowa’s inland waterways, 3 the Mississippi river, and on private farm ponds. The study 4 shall include assistance and guidance from three public members 5 appointed by the department. In conducting the study, the 6 department shall consult with the United States army corps 7 of engineers, the United States fish and wildlife service, 8 and local, state, and federal elected representatives. The 9 department shall submit a report of the study’s findings and 10 make recommendations to the general assembly by December 1, 11 2025. 12 EXPLANATION 13 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 14 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 15 This bill requires the department of natural resources 16 (department) to conduct a one-year study investigating pelican 17 predation on fish and other aquatic life in Iowa’s inland 18 waterways, the Mississippi river, and on private farm ponds. 19 The department shall appoint three members of the public to 20 assist and guide the study. The department shall consult 21 with the United States army corps of engineers, the United 22 States fish and wildlife service, and local, state, and federal 23 elected representatives over the span of the study.
