Section
1.
Section
455B.487,
subsection
1,
Code
2024,
is
1
amended
to
read
as
follows:

1.
The
commission
shall
adopt
rules
establishing
criteria
3
for
the
identification
of
land
areas
or
sites
which
that
are
4
suitable
for
the
operation
of
facilities
for
the
management
of
5
low-level
radioactive
wastes.
Upon
request,
the
department
6
shall
assist
in
locating
suitable
sites
for
the
location
of
7
a
facility.
The
commission
may
purchase
or
condemn
land
to
8
be
leased
or
used
for
the
operation
of
a
facility
subject
9
to
chapter
6A
and
section
461A.10A
.
Consideration
for
a
10
contract
for
purchase
of
land
shall
not
be
in
excess
of
funds
11
appropriated
by
the
general
assembly
for
that
purpose.
The
12
commission
may
lease
land
purchased
under
this
section
to
any
13
person
including
the
state
or
a
state
agency.
This
section
14
authorizes
the
state
to
own
or
operate
low-level
radioactive
15
waste
facilities,
subject
to
the
approval
of
the
general
16
assembly.

2.
NEW
SECTION
.
461A.10A
Property
acquisition.

For
every
parcel
of
land
acquired
by
the
department,
the
19
department
shall
sell
one
or
more
parcels
of
a
combined
20
equivalent
size
within
one
year.

Sec.
3.
Section
461A.11,
subsection
1,
Code
2024,
is
amended
22
to
read
as
follows:

1.
The
commission
may
accept
gifts
of
land
or
other
24
property,
subject
to
section
461A.10,
or
the
use
of
lands
or
25
other
property
for
a
term
of
years,
and
improve
and
use
the
26
land
as
public
state
parks.

4.
Section
465B.2,
subsection
2,
paragraph
c,
Code

2024,
is
amended
to
read
as
follows:

The
department
may
acquire
property
by
negotiated

purchase
and
hold
title
to
property
for
development
of
trails

to

The
department
may
enter
into

agreements
with
other
state
agencies,
political
subdivisions

the
state,
and

organizations
for
the
planning,
