S.F. 2274 Section 1. PELICAN STUDY. The department of natural 1 resources shall conduct a one-year study of pelican predation 2 in Iowa’s inland waterways, the Mississippi river, and on 3 private farm ponds. In conducting the study, the department 4 shall consult with the United States army corps of engineers, 5 the United States fish and wildlife service, and local, 6 state, and federal elected representatives. The department 7 shall submit a report of the study’s findings and make 8 recommendations to the general assembly by December 1, 2025. 9 EXPLANATION 10 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 11 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 12 This bill requires the department of natural resources 13 to conduct a one-year study investigating pelican predation 14 in Iowa’s inland waterways, the Mississippi river, and on 15 private farm ponds. The department shall consult with the 16 United States army corps of engineers, the United States fish 17 and wildlife service, and local, state, and federal elected 18 representatives over the span of the study.
