S.F. 2242 Section 1. Section 483A.24, subsection 2, paragraph c, Code 1 2024, is amended to read as follows: 2 c. Upon written application on forms furnished by the 3 department, the department shall issue annually without fee two 4 deer hunting licenses, one antlered or any sex deer hunting 5 license and one antlerless deer only deer hunting license, to 6 the owner of a farm unit or a member of the owner’s family, 7 but only a total of two licenses for both, and to the tenant 8 of a farm unit or a member of the tenant’s family, but only 9 a total of two licenses for both. The deer hunting licenses 10 issued shall be valid only for use on the farm unit for which 11 the applicant applies pursuant to this paragraph. The owner or 12 the tenant need not reside on the farm unit to qualify for the 13 free deer hunting licenses to hunt on that farm unit. The free 14 deer hunting licenses issued pursuant to this paragraph shall 15 be valid and may be used during any bow or firearm deer hunting 16 season. The licenses may be used to harvest deer in two 17 different seasons open season using a method of take authorized 18 for that season, subject to any other restrictions that may 19 apply, without first designating a season of use for the 20 license, but only one deer shall be harvested for each license . 21 In addition, a person who receives a free deer hunting license 22 pursuant to this paragraph shall pay a one dollar fee for each 23 license that shall be used and is appropriated for the purpose 24 of deer herd population management, including assisting with 25 the cost of processing deer donated to the help us stop hunger 26 program administered by the commission. 27 EXPLANATION 28 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 29 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 30 This bill relates to special landowner deer hunting 31 licenses. The bill allows the two special deer hunting 32 licenses issued to resident landowners or tenants, or their 33 family members, to be used without first designating the season 34 of use for the license.
