S.F. 2139 Section 1. NEW SECTION . 135.39F Autologous or directed 1 blood donations. 2 1. A blood bank that facilitates autologous or directed 3 blood donations shall comply with a physician’s order for an 4 autologous or directed blood donation. 5 2. A blood bank may charge a fee in an amount reasonable 6 and necessary to cover the administrative costs to the blood 7 bank of facilitating an autologous or directed blood donation 8 ordered by a physician under subsection 1. 9 3. For the purposes of this section: 10 a. “Autologous blood donation” means a blood donation made 11 by an individual for the individual’s own use. 12 b. “Blood bank” means the same as defined in section 141A.1. 13 c. “Directed blood donation” means the donation of blood 14 or blood components for the purpose of transfusion into a 15 specified individual. 16 Sec. 2. NEW SECTION . 135B.36 Autologous or directed blood 17 donation. 18 1. If a hospital licensed under this chapter facilitates 19 blood donations, the hospital shall allow an individual on whom 20 a medical procedure is to be performed to provide an autologous 21 or directed blood donation ordered by a physician for the 22 medical procedure. 23 2. For the purposes of this section, “autologous blood 24 donation” and “directed blood donation” mean the same as defined 25 in section 135.39F. 26 EXPLANATION 27 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 28 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 29 This bill relates to autologous or directed blood donations. 30 The bill provides that a blood bank that facilitates autologous 31 or directed blood donations shall comply with a physician’s 32 order for an autologous or directed blood donation.
