S.F. 2105 Section 1. Section 257.11, subsection 5, paragraph d, Code 1 2024, is amended to read as follows: 2 d. Supplementary weighting pursuant to this subsection shall 3 be available to a school district during the period commencing 4 with the budget year beginning July 1, 2014, through the budget 5 year beginning July 1, 2034. The maximum amount of additional 6 weighting for which a school district shall be eligible in 7 a budget year is twenty-one twenty-nine additional pupils. 8 Criteria for determining the qualification of operational 9 functions for supplementary weighting shall be determined by 10 the department by rule, through consideration of increased 11 student opportunities. 12 Sec. 2. APPLICABILITY. This Act applies to school budget 13 years beginning on or after July 1, 2025, subject to the school 14 budget year limitations of section 257.11, subsection 5. 15 EXPLANATION 16 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 17 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 18 Pursuant to Code section 257.11, in order to provide 19 additional funding to increase student opportunities and 20 redirect resources to student programming that share operation 21 functions, a school district or area education agency that 22 shares with another political subdivision one or more specified 23 operational functions is assigned a supplementary weighting 24 for each shared operational function. The maximum additional 25 weighting that a school district may receive in one year is 21 26 additional pupils. 27 This bill raises the maximum amount of additional weighting 28 a school district may receive for sharing operational functions 29 to 29 additional pupils. 30 The bill applies to school budget years beginning on or 31 after July 1, 2025, subject to the limitation of Code section 32 257.11(5), which sunsets the availability of supplementary 33 weighting following the school budget year beginning July 1, 34 2034. 35 -1- LSB 6164XS (1) 90 dg/jh 1/ 1
