S.F. 2085 Section 1. Section 724.15, subsection 1, Code 2024, is 1 amended to read as follows: 2 1. It is the intent of this section to satisfy federal 3 requirements of 18 U.S.C. §922(t)(3) in order to acquire 4 pistols or revolvers. In order to acquire a pistol or revolver 5 from a federally licensed firearms dealer, an unlicensed any 6 other person, and in order to provide proof of a background 7 check and notify that the purchaser is of legal age, a person 8 is required to have a valid permit to acquire or a valid permit 9 to carry weapons issued in accordance with this chapter or the 10 person must complete a satisfactory national instant criminal 11 background check pursuant to 18 U.S.C. §922(t). 12 EXPLANATION 13 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 14 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 15 This bill relates to background checks for acquiring pistols 16 or revolvers. 17 Current law provides that an unlicensed person acquiring a 18 pistol or revolver from a federally licensed firearms dealer 19 is required to have a valid permit to acquire or a valid permit 20 to carry weapons issued under the provisions of Code chapter 21 724 or the person must complete a satisfactory national instant 22 criminal background check pursuant to 18 U.S.C. §922(t). 23 The bill provides that in order for any person to acquire 24 a pistol or revolver from any other person, and in order 25 to provide proof of a background check and notify that the 26 purchaser is of legal age, a person is required to have a valid 27 permit to acquire or a valid permit to carry weapons issued 28 under the provisions of Code chapter 724 or the person must 29 complete a satisfactory national instant criminal background 30 check pursuant to 18 U.S.C. §922(t). 31 -1- LSB 5758XS (1) 90 as/js 1/ 1
